The Harvest Moon sets above Channel Ridge on Salt Spring Island.
This photo was taken at 6:30 AM looking across St. Mary Lake. Fall starts this Sunday afternoon and the nights and days are nearing 12 hours each. Great autumn days are ahead, some say it’s the best time of year—mind you they have a couple of years of dry firewood, and good rain gear, at hand.

We’ve got our firewood, but can I have some technical info on this shot too, please?

Technically speaking I was a bit late. I was heading down to Fernwood and saw the moon about to drop behind the trees on Channel Ridge.
No time to set up a tripod; just time to grab the 300 f/2.8 with 1.4x extender. Shot wide open (f/4) ISO 3200 at 1/1000 sec and focused on the tree line (this was underexposed by about 3 stops as suggested by the averaged meter). You are seeing about 1/3 of the frame. Minor edit with structure and contrast increase on the moon. Some sharpening and ‘save for web’ in PS.

Thanks, lots of surprises in your answer. Beautiful shot!
