While Cameron and I were doing our morning walk we came upon the first Lupine of the season. Ignoring the quizzical tilted head look only a Westie can give you, I sat down on the road for a minute to photograph the plant in the early morning light.
But that’s the good news. The complementary yellow background was unfortunately supplied by a very healthy crop of invasive Scotch Broom. All too common on the Island, particularly in recently cleared land.
It’s just a fact of life around here. But, by first cutting it all down (when it is in bloom), a small bit of maintenance each spring will keep it under control.
