This Salt Spring Island hillside is awash with run-off from the recent rain.
And today’s post marks a watershed in the history of Salt Spring Photos. As of today, eight full years of photos have appeared on this website. Whew.
In year nine, I believe there will be some changes as I expand my photographic pursuits. Both on Salt Spring and during journeys off-island.
By necessity there will be fewer posts; there won’t be a photo every day. This should provide time needed to produce images more in keeping with the quality of my commercial images. More images like the one in this post. It was carefully captured with a medium format digital camera system that I am gradually incorporating into my workflow. Though you won’t see the detail on screen*, prints made from the original images will be stunning at very large sizes (and at smaller sizes for those of us with little available wall space :-). Think about purchasing one print during 2016; it will help offset the cost of providing this website.
The 250 or so of you who have signed up for the email notification will continue to receive an email each time a new post is created. In order to view the photo you will need to click the link.
I hope you can see the three dimensional quality and clarity in today’s image. There’s more coming, I’m looking forward to sharing the journey with you.

*but if you are using a high resolution screen (like Apple’s ‘Retina’ displays), this website will know that and will serve your high res screen an image with four times the resolution used by standard screens…at no additional charge
John, I love your photos and am seriously looking for a new one for my living room!
I will be searching, and will contact you when I find THE ONE!! Love to all, Ruth
That’s great, no hurry. Be sure to get the one that works best for you!
Congratulations on your “work anniversary”, John! I shall miss the frequency of posts and will be watching out for the visual delights which really make my day. Your particular view and interesting cropping of the stunningly beautiful place we call home, encourages me to keep my eyes open and to notice my surroundings more. Thanks! Enjoy the next level and next stage of your journey.
Great to have you on the journey, Celeste.
thanks John, your work is a delight for all of us who follow
I’m curious where this image is?
Steven, can’t say as it’s a top-secret location.
Except to the folks who live in the area and everyone else who knows.
They know it’s a few minutes down Mountain Road on the right hand side.
Congratulations on your successes, John! I’ve been a fan since I moved to Salt Spring almost 5 years ago …. keep up the great work!
Marilyn
Thanks Mailyn!
Thanks for the daily dose of Salt Spring. The “daily” will be missed but the less frequent yet stunning will be treasured !
Good luck with the next phase.
Peter & Jayne
Thanks!
I agree 100% with Celeste’s comment. Thank you Celeste for expressing your feelings so well.
And thank you John for your inspiring images. I too will be looking for a small one for my wall, but I have no room so must make some adjustments. The older we get the more we downsize, so acquiring is a challenge – even books!
Tamar
OK, great, thanks Tamar. And good luck with the downsize, we’re trying but sometimes it feels that for every withdrawal there’s a deposit (or two) to take its place!
