This eagle, seen on Saltspring’s western shore this week, has its air brakes on and its prey in sight.

That’s mom and the kids out standing in their field.

Forty-two lambs this year at Dave Astill’s Cottonwood farm. And, despite living on a farm myself once upon a time, I didn’t know that lambs wag their tails furiously (like puppies) when nursing.

It will soon be time to get out of these winter woollies!

This duck landed much the way a floatplane does (or is it the other way around?). He slowed, put both wings out, extended his orange webbed feet, and in slow motion, gently skidded to a stop. And he did this just moments after a Beaver floatplane thundered away.
I watched him swim out into the reflection of the rising sun.
