GISS Basketball

A high-flying junior soars to the hoop as Gulf Islands Secondary School’s Junior Boys team swept their first ever invitational tournament. Visiting schools were from Nanaimo, Victoria and Vancouver.

Photographer’s note: The camera for this shot was fixed above the net and was fired remotely. As luck would have it, this same moment was also captured from the floor. It’s image number 20120203560 in the tourney album

Fog Storm

A spectacular winter dawn. It’s great fun watching the fog roll in. This view is from high up on Salt Spring Island looking towards Mount Baker in the USA.

GISPA 2012

The Gulf Islands School of Performing Arts (GISPA) class last week began what they call “collective creation”, the building together of a June performance. The large group of students and their three instructors work together (on music, dance and acting) to create original productions. GISPA is unique at the high school level and their productions are not to be missed.

GISPA PracticePhotographer’s note. This student, a dynamite dancer, is not posing for the camera; she didn’t know I was there. She’s in character and is staying in character as she moves, even when facing backstage. So a lucky shot really. (ISO 6400 35mm f1.8 1/60)

On with year four…
