Music Show with Wow!

January 17, 2014

GISS Music Show January 2014

This is a high school show? Really?

All kinds of wow in this performance, with two wonderful surprises from the GISPA* kids near the end of the show. Congrats to the composition class, the choir and the GISPA performers. And to dedicated teacher Bruce Smith who gives his kids a push and room to grow.

*GISPA (Gulf Islands School of Performing Arts), and performing arts in general at GISS is my business cause. And that’s probably why I went a bit overboard today. Three photos? C’mon choose one.

That’s not the half of it, another 200 or so were sent to the school. Back to regular programming tomorrow.

Freezing Lake

A Salt Spring Island lake beginning to freeze for the second time this season, just eight days ago.

Hard to believe since it was a spring-like 13º on the Island yesterday.

Journey to the West

January 6, 2014

Journey to the West, 2nd Story Theatre

Four Gulf Islands Secondary acting students take a quick photo break during a weekend rehearsal*.
Details of their show Journey to the West are below.

Journey To The West is a Chinese classic written in the early fifteenth century, adapted and performed by our Acting 11/12 class.

Journey To The West takes place in Ancient China, and eventually takes the audience to Ancient India. We get to see Buddhist temples, small fishing villages, The Court of Heaven, and the much more. It is a play centering around the relationship of mind and body, and how one reaches their destiny.

Featuring sneaky monkeys, wise monks, greedy pigs, kind Bodhisattvas, and the Tathagatta Buddha himself, this play will leave you, perhaps, almost as enlightened as the Buddhist monks themselves! A performance you won’t want to miss!
