There were people out enjoying the fabulous summer weather on the shell beach at Chocolate Island (Third Sister Island). In the background, a spectacular view of the islands and the snow on Mount Baker.

Continuing the craziness, the Salt Spring Slasher Downhill Race 2014 wraps up today. Reaching speeds around 85 kph the riders race down Juniper Road. Not something a parent should see…
I met my ‘first cousin once removed’ at the race. Here’s Leonardo as he wins his first heat by a large margin:

Another home for your Saturday viewing pleasure.
Complete with stunning spaces throughout.
And an intriguing use of a ‘cantilever’ theme in both structure and built-in furniture.

Well, almost impossible. You can take the Saturday early morning direct ferry to Tsawwassen. Drive the Coquihalla race track to West Kelowna and arrive by noon. Visit a few wineries and get back to Salt Spring via the evening direct ferry.
Our getaway included an overnight in West Kelowna. And we did visit Quail’s Gate (best modern architecture), Little Straw Vineyards (more our speed with great lunch and wines), and Mission Hill (best views, grounds and artwork).
Both photos are from Mission Hill.
