This happy (2012 Salt Spring Fall Fair) Zucchini Racer hoists a flashy 2nd place ribbon.

Yoda’s riding a corn husk zap-strapped to the mandatory zucchini in lane two. And clearly the force was with him as the competition is far behind… “No! Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try.”
Happy first full day of Fall.

One of the veteran GISPA (Gulf Island School of Performing Arts) students. The GISPA dance teacher had everyone—actors, musicians and dancers—doing a movement warm-up. They were moving through the letters in their names while keeping to the rhythm count of a piece of music.
These student amaze year after year. There’s nothing that says ‘high school’ about the year end performance they create.
The three program instructors work with the students in something called collective creation. From the GISPA website:
Collective Creation: Students of GISPA are given a unique opportunity. Together, we work on creating an original collective project between all three of our strands: Acting, Music and Dance. This means that our students work together, creating original music, choreography and scene-work geared towards a final year-end production. Collective creation aims to blend all of our strengths into a sleek, powerful performance through which our innovation and skill can shine.

Sarah and her friends were taking a break from their Grad 2013 fundraising chores at this year’s Fall Fair. The Fair is a big deal on this little Island. Lots and lots of people were at the bandstand. Raffi was taking a turn on stage and seemed to be well received by this demographic. These photos were taken over a 3 minute period.

There’s a certain magic about night photography. And it’s become much more possible in the last couple of years.
