On the ArtSpring stage during the recent GISPA rehearsal grab shot that looks like a portrait
The image was shot in colour and processed as a colour image and as a black and white image.
I like them both; do you have a preference?
photo info: Canon 1DX, ISO 6400, f/2.0, 1/1600 sec, 0.33 ev, 135mm (no noise reduction applied to the images)
The monochrome works best here I think. I fits the scene better.
Thanks Stefan.
I like the colour best – so you will get a ton of different responses.
Her face is much more lovely in colour. (That is my feeling, anyway).
What do you think, John?

I can see that. I suppose the conversion to B&W could be done differently, making the face lighter and softer.
Colour. Her eyes/face are too beautiful to be in black and white. The red on the glove. The blue strap that I didn’t even notice in black and white but adds a subtle touch of colour lower in the photo. The light off her hair.
Good observations, thanks Gayle.

“I am a huge fan of black and white portraits, especially yours, and this one is beautiful too, but the coloured photo is absolutely stunning. You have captured and enhanced this young ladies gorgeous skin tone. And her eyes and hair and even dull clothes make it perfect! Thanks!”
-Cathy
“Black and white, definitely, to my eye. It takes the “sweetness” out of it and seems more nuanced to me.”
-Florence
“John, We really enjoy all of your photos. Thank you so much. Regarding today’s photo of the boxer, we loved the black and white–it shows so much character and personality.”
-Dave and Beth
“Gorgeous photos, gorgeous young woman, both in black and white, and in colour. Thank you so much for your beautiful photography, daily. It is glorious.”
-Melodie
Colour for me, but both are excellent!
I find the tone of the face too dark against her neck in the B&W. I prefer the colour image. But a beautiful young lady regardless.
