Pileated Peeper

Pileated Woodpeckers

Pileated Woodpeckers in our front yard.

There were four bouncing around on this tree. Quite a sight as we rarely see them, and when we do, it’s usually just one at a time.

I usually hear them before I see them.

Yup, they aren’t quiet, that’s for sure.

Excellent shot of this one. It’s either this kind or a very similar species of woodpecker that I’ve seen up close in these parts.

Great shot John! Jan Mangan forwarded this onto me. Of course we named our B&B after the gorgeous Pileated Woodpeckers we see all the time! I’ve just bought a digital SLR, so I’m hoping to get some photos of these gorgeous beasties (it will make great practice anyway)! Warmly, Emma-Louise

Thanks! And this seems to be a great time of year to get a bit closer to them.
