Reuse/Recyle: Salt Spring style

Quite often creative Salt Spring artwork comes through my photo studio. Thought you might like to have a peek at this one, a commissioned piece by Peter McFarlane. It stopped in for a portrait session on its way to a well known museum in eastern Canada.

I’ve seen Brian Jungen’s very unique First Nation’s sculptures from Nike high tops at the VAG way back when he first created them to critical acclaim and this sculpture which I feel like I’ve seen somewhere else, strangely enough, and really like. I wonder what a female artist would/could use or perhaps has that I’m not aware of. I’ve always loved the everyday or brands remade into art, started, I guess, by Andy Warhol or perhaps much further back in history.

Jungen’s Nike work is very clever. I remember being intrigued by his red, white and black creations. And you may have seen Peter’s sculpture years ago at Pegasus or ArtSpring.
