Ashley Swinton

The women’s Div 2 team played the first half short one player, but held the Castaways to a 0-0 draw. Injured high schooler Ashley Swinton “couldn’t watch anymore and decided to play through the pain for the second half”. Big difference; lots of scoring chances and a 1-0 win over the Castaways. The Salt Spring women remain in first place.

Above, Ashley beats her check and surprises the keeper with a scalding low shot to the bottom corner to score the game’s only goal.

*update: in her next game Ashley scored 5 goals.

I love your action shots, John! These players look so ladylike and pretty even while they are kicking butt! Makes me proud to be a woman!

Great comment. I love peak action shot where it’s clear the players are going all out. (faces contorted with pain, sweat flying etc) Women never like those shots…
In the shot above I think Ashley, who is an accomplished athlete, knows the ball is going in the net —no sweat—and it shows on her face.

Soccer is just a great game for a photographer!

Agreed! And the higher the skill level, the better the opportunities to capture the action.
