There was a lot of laughter from the first child when I told her I’d narrowed down my top 60 favourites from the 2011 Salt Spring Photos of the Day.
Apparently top ten is a better choice.
After some tough bargaining to show who’s boss, I got the count up from 10 to 12, but she would get to choose the ten. Hmmm… I’ve never been on a bargaining committee. And it shows.
At least I got to slip in one of my favourites — the night storm photo at the top of the page for a nice even ‘baker’s dozen’.

I know why it would be so hard to narrow it down to the top 10! There are many other photos of yours that I recall that I would like to see in this list, but I know there is no room! That eagle is hilarious and the girls are heartwarming and the improv kids are endearing and the veteran is classic. I seem to be more drawn to comment on your photo-journalistic pieces from this list because the human element is so raw and real. Very nice captures!
I’m with Rachel – there are others that I would like to see on the list, but that’s the beauty of a good photograph, it takes each of us a different way! I enjoy your work very much John, thanks!
Thanks Rachel and Paul for your insightful and kind comments.
