What a Difference a Rain Makes

March 11, 2016

Raging Stream on Salt Spring Island

Believe it or not, this is the same stream featured previously, but after yesterday’s downpour. It’s taken from the same spot, but is a horizontal photo. And that’s because there was nothing to see but water below in the foreground. None of the mid stream or right shore boulders could be seen.

What made it even more interesting—and a bit scary—was the muted sound of a rock tumbling down the mountain. Eventually I realized the occasional boulder was hurtling underwater, and thus unseen, down the stream.

Here’s the original photo again for comparison:

My reaction too. I was expecting more volume, but nothing like that.

Totally amazing what a little moisture can do! And after all the dry weather, how quickly forget how wet it can be….

Exactly. And remarkable too how we can watch the rainwater tumble into the ocean all winter—then run low on water all summer.

There is not a big enough rain barrel.
