Cycles with Motors

Stretching the bike thing into the weekend, I stumbled across this interesting photo in my archives. It’s a bike after all.

I’m guessing a few of the Velo Village riders might be thinking about a motor as they strain to reach the summit along Stewart Road this morning.

pART Project 2012 at ArtSpring

pART 2012 on display at ArtSpring

An extraordinary display of creativity is on now at ArtSpring. pART Project 2012 is designed to help support cycling in Africa.

Velo Village celebrates rural cycling: here, there, everywhere. When SRAM Marketing wizard, David Zimberoff, reached out with an opportunity for us to contribute to cycling in rural Africa the answer was yes. The question was how?
“Start,” he said, “with a 100 bike parts. Make art. Auction the art. Give the proceeds to World Bicycle Relief.”

One piece caught my eye. It’s a hands-on kaleidoscope created by local woodworker Illtyd Perkins. The wooden knobs turn various sprockets to create the kaleidoscope effect. Multiple copies of every detail appear in the kaleidoscope.

The front (note the tiny bike):

At the Park

Bike at the Skatepark

I’m pretty sure that the Velo Village riders don’t have this Salt Spring location (Kanaka Road Skatepark) on their maps. But I’m sure they’re welcome and it’s a pretty cool place.

Apparently with or without shirt, and helmet, and safety gear…

Great Cycle Road

Patti and Bruce along the lake

Patti and Bruce indulging the photog while on their ride past St. Mary lake and on to the North End loop. How ’bout that road!

Hopefully the Velo Village cyclists will find time to explore this Salt Spring cycle route.

Happy Summer.

Speaking of summer, I just remembered this bike photo of Bruce riding in the not summer on Salt Spring where it does not snow.

High Jump

High jump at Crankworx after the sun is gone

Cycling can be an extreme sport, that’s for sure. This shot was taken just as the sun went down behind summer clouds. The rider, coming off a huge jump and heading downhill landed safely from 35 feet up…somehow.
