GISPA Vintage Suitcases

GISPA Vintage Suitcases

An odd thing to see in a high school classroom.
GISPA is clearly getting ready for their 2014 show, May 14 to 15 at ArtSpring. But what’s going on with the vintage suitcases?
All will be revealed in time, stay tuned.

GISPA is the Gulf Islands School of Performing Arts. It’s a school within Gulf Islands Secondary on Salt Spring Island. This unique school combines advanced technical and artistic training and collective creation.

Students of GISPA are given a unique opportunity. Together, we work on creating an original collective project between all three of our strands: Acting, Music and Dance. This means that our students work together, creating original music, choreography and scene-work geared towards a final year-end production. Collective creation aims to blend all of our strengths into a sleek, powerful performance through which our innovation and skill can shine.

It’s my pleasure to not only work around these talented and energetic young people but to support them as my business cause.

In the Back Forty

Truck in the back 40

Spring in the Booth Canal area:
This old (60’s ?) truck seems to be put out to pasture but appears to have some company.
There is a huge range of lifestyle scenes on Salt Spring Island.

The Long Moment

March 30, 2014

The Long Moment

Another Sunday Experiment

There’s a magic in the unrelenting motion of waves on a long, flat ocean beach. It stays with you and calls you back from your inland home.

Salt Spring Island is technically on the west coast, but not the real open coast you find on Vancouver Island and the US western coastline. Fortunately the west coast can be reached in half a day, and that’s something many of us are driven to do at least once or twice a year. We can’t help it…

In an effort to absorb the experience, it almost seems necessary to stand on the hard wet sand, eyes closed and listen to the crash of the distant breaking waves and the murmur of the water as it advances up the beach. Then walk some more and repeat.

This photo is an attempt to capture that experience. The peaceful dawn above promised another clear, clam day with distant low fog banks. The long exposure (16 seconds) hints at the never-ending wave action.

But wait! For a limited time, there’s more photos of this area! Why not head over to johncameron.ca and have a look.

New Chemainus River Bridge on Chemainus Road

March 23, 2014

New Chemainus River Bridge on Chemainus Road

I’m a big fan of picturesque wooden bridges, especially covered bridges.

But the old wood bridge was replaced with a new five million dollar (wood free) bridge over the Chemainus river. There’s also a view-spoiling gas line pipe spanning the river on the west side of this bridge.

p.s.
This was a day trip from Salt Spring to Nanaimo Toyota where my Tacoma gets its yearly spa treatment. While there I saw this interesting little 2 litre (200 hp) motor in a Scion FR-S. Note the intake manifold sports both Toyota and Subaru branding.
