Thanks Gail for the heads-up and invite to come see the Anna’s and Rufous Hummingbirds. I hope to return soon and perhaps bring some light; these were shot in the quickly fading dusk at unfortunately high ISO (“film speed’ in the old days where 400 was a high speed film) I started at 6400 and quickly went to 128 000.
Quite an amazing sight and sound as these tiny birds flash around!
What better way to spend Earth Day, or any day, than discovering a new (to us) loop trail on the slopes of Salt Spring’s Mount Maxwell?
The trail above quickly entered old growth territory and became even more magical. The summit surprised us as it was partially enveloped in cloud. Particularly to the west and north.
6:23 a.m. Fernwood Pier
Best moment of the day—which soon became mainly cloudy with a few showers. It was actually a double moment as the western view behind was a sky of soft pastels (and a few bobbing Buffleheads).
A White Trillium
First one I’ve seen in our neighbourhood this year. It is just a few steps off the road in a shady spot. The low dusk light after a brief shower was helped a bit by a small LED flashlight.
Hopefully it will flourish and turn pink as it ages and thus be ready for a second portrait.
