A Twist on the Teacher’s Apple

SD64 Teachers Feb 27, 2012

A high school student visits Gulf Islands School District teachers during yesterday’s after-school demonstration on Fulford-Ganges Road. At 5 pm, those croissants looked yummy!

SD64 is home to some of the brightest, most passionate and most dedicated teachers in the country. The Island people know it and were vocal with their horns as they went by. It was reminiscent of October, 2005.

“Since 1992, contract negotiations for BC public school teachers has been on a province-wide basis, negotiating a single contract with the British Columbia Public School Employers’ Association (BCPSEA). Since that time, each contract has been legislated into law by the government of the day because the teachers and employers have failed to reach an agreement.” Wikipedia

Before 1992, local teachers and the local school board successfully negotiated all contract agreements…

Generations Connect

connecting generations in sd64

Generations connect in the Gulf Islands School District. And it’s a two-way street as not only do students find mentors and information sources, but students also mentor adults in technology and other areas.

Late Day Paddle near Fulford

February 24, 2012

Late day ride

Continuing from yesterday’s story (you know the ferry lousy with photogs), rather than wait for the sun to go down, I turned around, crossed the Skeena Queen’s deck and saw this peaceful scene.

Photos are where you point your camera. Profound, huh?

Cape Keppel from the Skeena Queen

February 23, 2012

Cape Keppel, Salt Spring Island

Coming home from a day off the rock we were treated to this scene looking toward Cape Kepple on Salt Spring Island. The artfully arranged and graphic cloud created a beautiful reflection.

There were a crowd of photographers on the boat, but I managed to get a spot.

The Solo Swimmer

The Solo Swimmer 1

I can upon this solo swimmer, a young cormorant I believe, on a dull Ganges day. He (She?) was quite wary. We played ‘Guess where I’m going to surface’ for two minutes before I was alone.

First Light on Salt Spring Island

First Light on Salt Spring Island

The sun pops up over the Sarah Way area. Fog rolls in over Ford lake (foreground centre) and the Fulford inlet (right). That’s Mt. Baker in the distance left of centre and, if you squint at this small version of the image, you can see Mount Rainier on the right.
