Arbutus Bark Peeling

July 17, 2013

Bark peeling on an arbutus tree
From our deck and from the office*, we love to watch the sculptures change daily on this Arbutus tree.

The photos below show the tree the first day of peeling, and three days after the peeling began.
It takes about one week for the south side to completely peel.

The Arbutus is an evergreen tree which grows close to the ocean. As the weather becomes warm and dry, many of the leaves fall and the bark begins to peel to reveal a new skin.

*This Arbutus is beside a small Maple where we sometimes see an owl.

Ruckle Park Breeze

July 10, 2013

Camper pitches a North Face tent at Ruckle Park, Salt Spring Island

A nice breeze at  the Ruckle Park campsite inflates this North Face Tent.
And that looks like Roger Kibble’s blue Aprhodite 101 sailboat, Electra, in the distance.
