In the heart of the village, a girl perches in a quiet spot to talk on her phone.
I think this image documents a moment in 2014, and may be equally interesting to view years from now.

Intriguing and lovely picture. Very unusual degree of ‘out-of-focusness’. The leaves at the top form a fuzzy frame that really makes you look at the girl. It reminds me of one of the shots you did of the Saltspring Air guy: the slightly soft background makes it look like an old studio portrait with a painted backdrop. A Victorian fairytale.
Thanks Stuart. That’s what I was going for. A combination of fog and an extremely shallow depth of focus got me most of the way there. It works in colour of course, but there’s something special about the black and white.
I like the way you’ve composed this shot!
Thanks. That’s full frame and I wondered about her being smack in the centre. I tried cropping the left part of the tree out so that she was in the first third of the image, but liked it better this way. And I considered removing the bench, but that didn’t work for me either…
