Cycling can be an extreme sport, that’s for sure. This shot was taken just as the sun went down behind summer clouds. The rider, coming off a huge jump and heading downhill landed safely from 35 feet up…somehow.

Feast your eyes on the route Velo Village cyclists will take from Fulford Harbour to Ganges.
The cyclists, 400 strong, will travel from Swartz Bay to Fulford on BC Ferries first bike-only ferry on Saturday, June 23rd at 10 am. Leaving the bike ferry, they will take part in a fun ride along Stewart and Beddis Roads to Ganges. (route map)
Local artists have decorated a great many bikes for the event. Most are in the Ganges core; the rest can be found along the three routes from the BC Ferry terminals to Ganges (Fulford, Vesuvius, and Long Harbour).

But that’s the good news. The complementary yellow background was unfortunately supplied by a very healthy crop of invasive Scotch Broom. All too common on the Island, particularly in recently cleared land.
It’s just a fact of life around here. But, by first cutting it all down (when it is in bloom), a small bit of maintenance each spring will keep it under control.

These two were seen on Salt Spring’s western shore.
