During a recent long solo hike, I heard odd splashing sounds on the trail ahead. I surprised two large black ravens (all three of us startled…).
The ravens had somehow found water in this dry ravine.

A visitor waits in the shade of downtown Ganges.
He told me—smiling as he said it—that he’s learning patience from his canine friend.

This young buck—crunching and munching through the salal in front of our house—makes an effective 5 am wake up call.
Cameron (the Westie) echoes that. Literally. With gusto.

Orcas. A mother and calf swim by at dusk.
A bit far for a good look from shore, even with a long lens. But it was still a special moment! A dozen or so individually swam by over a period of 20 minutes, each surfacing occasionally for a couple of seconds.
The mother and calf were the only two swimming together and they were perfectly synchronized.
