First light breaks through morning fog on a Salt Spring Island mountain trail. Winter in the Gulf Islands…
Creek Bed
During a recent long solo hike, I heard odd splashing sounds on the trail ahead. I surprised two large black ravens (all three of us startled…).
The ravens had somehow found water in this dry ravine.
Hiking a Mountaintop Trail on Salt Spring Island
Cameron (the West Highland Terrier) led me on an interesting explore just before sunset.
Lovely light.
Burgoyne Bay Provincial Park
Cameron (family dog for those just joining us) took me along the waterside trail to the point past Burgoyne Bay.
And back:
This is one of those things photographers like to do: photograph what catches your eye, then turn around to check if there’s something equally good or better behind you. On these hikes I rarely lug along the heavy professional gear; lately just the diminutive Ricoh GR, a very serious fixed lens camera that fits in a pocket.
What to do with a foggy morning
Head into the forest to enjoy the colours and solitude.
