Out another window was a very large black bear walking towards us down the middle of the logging road. Fortunately he/she headed off on a trail away from where we’d stopped.
Happy Summer 2015
With summer comes holidays and travel. And this summer there’s going to be a lot of it—on road and off—for the Salt Spring Photos team. The focus will continue to be on photos of Salt Spring Island.
But we expect there’ll also be a “heapin’ helpin'” of favourite photos taken while exploring the Gulf Islands, Vancouver Island and, hopefully, beyond. There’ll quite possibly be the odd day or two where we’ll be out of range, off the grid, and out of touch with the digital world. So don’t worry if a day or two go by without a fresh photo on this website. We’ll be back!

Oh, one more thing. Above is the ‘Salt Spring Photos Mobile Research Vehicle’. It’s a Four Wheel Camper (Fleet model that fits our wee Toyota Tacoma like a glove). Man scooters by an unusual Salt Spring sight
This customized International 7300, visiting from Oregon, was carefully not parked downtown during the long weekend. Good plan.
The vehicle was produced from 2004 to 2008, is a diesel 4×4 and weighs twice as much as the original giant Hummer.
I like the colour.

Supermoon 8:35 pm, August 10, 2014
There was a big crowd out in Ganges to watch the moon rise Sunday. The Coast Guard area provided a good platform to view the moon which rose in the east-south east (105º). Some low cloud and haze provided great colour when the moon was near the horizon. Apparently this was “the biggest and brightest moon in 20 years.”
