Before the Storm
Late afternoon hiking a ridge yesterday on Salt Spring’s west side.

A weathered boardwalk winds it way through the Sitka Spruce fringe on Canada’s west coast.
Gorgeous, even in light rain.

Gorgeous late day September light paint this favourite spot with special texture, dimension and colour.

One down at the entrance to the first trail
While heading out to do a little off-road exploring on the weekend (just across the pond, on Vancouver Island) we happened upon a group of jeeps. Things got interesting right away. We soon left them and headed up a rough narrow trail towards a secret spot. What was a dusty trail a week ago had now become a river bed. Made for an exciting journey. Water was running off all the side hills and rock faces. Lots of waterfalls and raging streams. A large reservoir, low a week ago was suddenly full. Nice to see after months of drought! On the way over to the west coast we crossed some streams that had flooded the trails. At one we came upon the group of jeeps again—just in time see a little Suzuki Sidekick get swept off the trail but the rushing water. One brave soul waded in with a winch strap and the Sidekick was pulled to more solid ground then bailed out.
