Trincomali Channel, February Morning

One Log in the Current

During the last couple of weeks on Salt Spring, most early mornings have seen only brief breaks in the cloud. This particular morning was quite dull at dawn. So I had lots of time to watch the log in the photo above pass by under Fernwood pier. The tide and currents were surprisingly strong and the path the log took was also unusual. This would have been great intel in my sailboat racing days!

Heading home along Walker Hook Road (photo free), I noticed the sky opening up a bit so I stopped the truck and scurried down to the shoreline. This was taken from the Maliview area towards Active Pass.

Ohhhhh! I can almost feel what it must have felt like to take this photo. Beautiful.

Thanks! It did feel special, like I was the only one around—which I was. Lots of places here on Salt Spring and across the water on Vancouver Island are still like that. Speaking of which I’m getting itchy to resume backroads exploring with the camper…
