Making a Walkway from Nothing

March 21, 2015

Ganges Harbour Walkway 2

2:15 pm at the head of Ganges Harbour
Once upon a time there was to be a continuous boardwalk, (away from traffic) from the Ganges waterfront past this area.
But that’s a political story someone else can tell.

When I happened by, work was paused, presumably waiting for more giant retaining wall blocks.
The scale of which is seen better from the bottom of the wall:

These crisp photos were taken with a tiny camera that fits in a pants pocket.

Natural Playground

Fernwood Kids on Natural Playground

Fernwood School students were seen trying out the almost complete ‘natural playground’ yesterday during lunch.
Friday they begin a two week spring break. I bet their parents are hoping for better weather than is currently forecast.

GISS Improvisors to Ottawa

March 17, 2015

GISS Improv Seniors

This is a crazy, quick thinking and no-holds-barred silly group that at once cracks you up and makes you wonder how they do it.
The thing is, they’ve managed to qualify with the other top improv teams in Canada for the Nationals of the Canadian Improv Games.

As you may know, performing arts at Gulf Islands Secondary School (GISS) has been my sole business cause for years. While I usually work with the GISPA group, it’s a treat to help out with the Improv kids this month. Coincidentally, a team from (I think) four years ago also travelled to the Nationals. And there were some siblings of the pictured students in that group. And those folks just signed releases to allow a photograph I’d taken of them during an ArtSpring performance to appear as the front cover of a novel (about improv) for middle school age students. Together we donated the $500 to help get the 2015 team to Ottawa.

They need a lot more than $500 to get there. If you’d like to know more about how you can help, just click the big black button below:
