Dry Creek Dwellers

October 22, 2015

Dry Creek Scene

Came across these two—and their buddies nearby—while walking in a Salt Spring Island forest.
The mushrooms were growing in what is normally a small creek at this time of the year. But there was no water in sight.

I noticed the graphic nature of the arrangement, the colours and the soft light from an overcast sky. And knew this could be a daily photo candidate.

A Bit of Colour

October 20, 2015

A bit of colour

A bit of colour from the multi-talented visual artist Peter Schnitzler. Peter divides his time between Salt Spring Island and California.
This is a particular section of just one of many of his pieces I admired (and photographed as part of my day job).
Look for a selection of Peter’s stunning painting styles coming soon to an exhibition near you.

Peter’s paintings were photographed using a medium format digital camera, now in use in and out of the studio.

Behind the Beach

Behind the Beach

A weathered boardwalk winds it way through the Sitka Spruce fringe on Canada’s west coast.
Gorgeous, even in light rain.

Merry Chase

Merry Chase

Built in 1929; restored and cruising now. This lovely boat is tied up in Ganges on Salt Spring Island.
I wonder what the chase was all about and what it might be about now?

Polar Opposites

I admit to being a design junkie. Whether a potato masher or a Porsche, things that work and look good doing it interest me.
So I noticed this car across the street in downtown Ganges. We don’t get that many cars like this on the Island. And, actually ‘noticed’ is an understatement, ‘barely  survived whiplash as I rubber-necked’ is probably more appropriate.

Then two walkers happened by, oblivious to the graceful lines of the Porsche, and in some ways polar opposites to the car. To complete the tableau, the window reflection shows an older fellow stopping and turning around to inspect the moment.

Life and times in a small island town.
