And it’s free.
This is the Needles Ferry (Needles to Fauquier across Lower Arrow Lake). It’s been operating since 1913.
Here’s the story of what’s happened so far in this shot:
1. The Gulf Islands Water Taxi Scholarship (large aluminum boat; middle right) attempting to return to it’s dock space stopped to wait for the large sailboat to slowly complete it’s turn and leave (there was no room for the sailboat to tie up).
2. An inflatable dinghy cuts right across Scholarship’s bow, causing Scholarship to stop and reverse. (the dinghy will soon discover the dinghy dock is full)
3. A small runabout, seeing Scholarship stopped in the middle of the entrance decides to barge through too, pretty much in front of the sailboat now trying to escape the area.
We’re taking off (see what we did there?) for a few days and will likely be back posting photos by Tuesday afternoon.
Photographs of Salt Spring Island and areas reachable by ferry and road (and sometimes off-road).
