Salt Spring to the Coastal Mountains

March 4, 2014

Foggy View over Salt Spring toward the Coastal Mountains

6:45 a.m. Above Ganges looking to the Coastal Mountains

Light fog develops over the last bits of Salt Spring snow; thick fog blankets Trincomali Channel. And the Coastal Range hints at it’s magnificence in the early dawn light.

Ganges Harbour on a March Morning

Ganges Harbour on a March Morning

7:30 am: Sunrise in Ganges Harbour

Salt Spring Air’s Maple Bay to Ganges flight arrives at Ganges Harbour just as a low cloud and fog develop.
Makes for a gorgeous west coast moment.

Lighting Experiment: profoto 1x3 softbox

Stefanie is a work experience student at Gulf Island Secondary. She helped deliver and hang a photo at Fernwood Café and then dropped by the studio to learn about using strobe lights (flash) and help setup for a business portrait appointment.

We were also experimenting with a pair of new 1′ x 3′ softboxes and grids.  The quick shot above used just one softbox.

Another Sunday experiment.

The Old Tree

Channel Ridge Tree

The old tree on Channel Ridge Farm at the beginning of the-big-melt.

With a high of ten degrees Friday and rain forecast for Saturday and Sunday, you just know this scene isn’t going to last.
Looks someone was here before me. Probably someone with boots and, I bet, a camera.

Snow Load

Yesterday on my street.

I heard somewhere recently that 70 percent of Canadians remove only 30 percent of the snow from their cars.

Spectacular Snow Morning on Salt Spring

February 25, 2014

Snow Morning on Salt Spring Island

Unusual February morning with a bright blanket of snow, a deep blue sky and crystal clear air. The sun was playing with the snow covered branches—a visual delight.

Loving these snowy days but pretty much ready for the power to come on.
