Snow Day!

Yesterday snow was coming down and gently painting the world white. We sat around the fire, watched the Olympics and pretended it was a snow day.
Today, in our neck of the woods it’s a real live snow day with almost 30 cm of the heavy stuff, trees bending and occasional power fluctuations. Love it—a gold medal weather day!

Good day for it

Plane View

Float plane pilots have the best views.
This photo, captured above Ganges, includes Salt Spring and the southern Gulf Islands, Active Pass, Mount Baker and the coastal mountains on the mainland.
Glowing Hearts

Women’s Olympic Hockey Gold Medal Game:
The United States played with speed and skill to take the lead.
Canada came back with heart, to win Gold.
Lettuce Wall at GISS Cafeteria

Inside the cafeteria: a living lettuce wall sculpture (the lettuce is used in lunches prepared by cafeteria students and purchased by students and staff). Water and nutrients trickle through the piping, tickling the plant’s roots.
Outside the cafeteria: a table in the new hydroponics greenhouse.
