At the Piano

January 21, 2016

3:10 p.m. GISS Music Performance Dress Rehearsal at ArtSpring Theatre

I noticed an interesting reflection as this student played the piano.
The show takes place tonight. There are some stunning voices this semester, tons of energy and talent, lots of fun and a great many wow moments.

International Student

January 20, 2016

International Student at Gulf Islands Secondary School

This Latin American student is attending school on Salt Spring this year. And will be one of many International Program students featured in a series of upcoming videos.

Have you seen the video we produced last year for International Education in the Gulf Islands School District? It promotes the program, the school, and Salt Spring and the Gulf Islands. It’s short, powerful and worth a look.

I was more impressed than ever with the students and staff at GISS. I’ve been in hundreds of schools in BC, but I have not encountered such a warm, polite, and focused group of young people.  Congrats to parents, staff and to the students themselves.

Sean Goddard’s Insects

Sean Goddard's Insects

Busy day yesterday, a morning photoshoot on location for an upcoming video.
And back in the studio for an afternoon tangling with Sean’s creative insects. Salt Spring artists are constantly extending their ideas, and Sean is no exception. In the bonus photo below you can see an additional detail of the side of one insect. That tiny stainless handle is the crank for a hidden music box…

From the Office Window

January 18, 2016

pileated woodpecker from office window

Through the office window on a dark rainy day, a Pileated Woodpecker and I keep an eye on each other.

bonus: the bird was frozen on this Douglas Fir for more than six hours. Only its head was moving. I’ve read this can have something to do with that pesky hawk again. (after an altercation with a predator, the woodpecker may not return to its nest until the hawk has left the area)
