Hiking the Dunbabbin Trail, Salt Spring Island
A newborn Maple makes a valiant effort to grow amoung the ancient Cedars.

This short rainforest trail is currently struggling with the effects of substantial tree cutting on both neighbouring properties. And beavers continue to put their stamp on the west end of the trail, occasionally flooding the bridge and the low section of trail.

45 Degrees from Yesterday

May 2, 2016

Fernwood Morning
This image was made a couple of minutes after the one presented yesterday. The camera was rotated about 45 degrees to the right, away from the light. The sky is darker, but the light from the approaching sunrise is already much stronger (and is beginning to wash out the colour in the clouds). Details on the shoreline are beginning to appear.

Morning Civil Twilight Colours

May 1, 2016

Twilight Colours

The sky colours are more intense during civil twilight*  than they are after sunrise, as shown in the above photo taken from Fernwood Pier.

There’s a beam of light in the sky and reflected in the water; apparently this is called a sun pillar. And to the right, an aging condensation trail from a high flying jet.

Salt Spring Island Saturday Home Photo

April 30, 2016

Saturday Home Photo
Saturday Salt Spring Island home photo…sort of.
In the foreground is the last portion of a very long driveway to a home perched above its 160 acres. Roughly one-quarter of the ocean view is shown in this image. The home gets direct light, from 360 degrees. The nearest neighbour appears to be at a similar elevation, perhaps 5 km away as the crow flies (actually the neighbours have a helicopter, so perhaps more accurately—as the helicopter flies).

Hiking the Wild Pacific Trail

April 27, 2016

Hiking the Wild Pacific Trail
It was a rare t-shirt weather couple of April days on the west coast—enough to entice us to stay one more.
Here during a hike along the Wild Pacific Trail, I stopped to watch the swells play through the shoreline rocks. Once again, time well spent!
