East Point, So Close but So Far

May 24, 2016

East Point, Saturna Island, BC
9:40 On the beach looking up at the ‘Fog Horn’ building

Saturna Island is one of my favourite getaway spots. It’s only 15 miles from Salt Spring but can be a very long and convoluted way via ferry. As in four or five hours.

And East Point is a wonderful place to explore, especially in the early morning and in the evening when you may be the only one there. On this recent morning, I was getting in one more photo walk along the shore before heading back to the ferry terminal for the 10:20 am boat to Swartz Bay.

Come back tomorrow for two more sandstone sculpture images from this shoreline.

Needs a Second Look

May 23, 2016

Taken on a recent startlingly-blue-sky-day, this photo may need a second look. There’s no skullduggery going on here, but what exactly are you seeing?

Salt Spring Dawn Colours

May 15, 2016

Fern wood's Dawn Colours
5:38 am at Fernwood Pier
Although the sun had technically risen, from Fernwood Beach, it hadn’t yet risen above Galiano Island. So this area was still in a twilight state.

In my mind’s eye the dock railings are a bright ‘government-dock’ red. They started that way but haven’t been repainted for a few years. A closer look in daylight confirms the railings are a faded, almost pinkish-red colour now.

One View, Two Times

Campsite View 1

Campsite View 2

Twilight. Two photographs from the same beach.
But are these both morning photos, both evening photos, or one of each? Feel free to comment.

p.s.
We’ve seen also seen the view from this beach in a moment of stunning colour.

It’s that time

May 9, 2016

'campground'
1:05 p.m. San Juan Beach
It’s that time of year: short excursions exploring the areas around Salt Spring Island. And, as previously mentioned, often without any kind of internet connection. Which is a good thing I think. But this means there will be more frequent interruptions in postings on this website though October.

This is San Juan Beach, at Port Renfrew. The beach is well exposed to the ocean and thus the pile-up of logs. The logs afford some protection from the wind—and great spots to enjoy the sun and read a book.

Below is a photograph of part of the beach. The camper is visible, but I’m not sure you can pick it out on every size viewing screen (1/3 in from the right and halfway down the image):
