Salt Spring Home #241

OK, here’s a Salt Spring Island home and a half. We stopped by for a few evening/night photographs and I’ve got to say that this is one of the most interesting homes on the Island. It could be because we were there on a gorgeous clear warm evening and just kept shooting and shooting — until well after dark (I’ve now delivered a total of 44 images of this home to Sotheby’s). Standing on the tile over concrete deck, we could feel the day’s warmth radiating from below and from the rock wall of the house itself. The whole front of the home opens up to a panoramic ocean view.

45 Degrees from Yesterday

May 2, 2016

Fernwood Morning
This image was made a couple of minutes after the one presented yesterday. The camera was rotated about 45 degrees to the right, away from the light. The sky is darker, but the light from the approaching sunrise is already much stronger (and is beginning to wash out the colour in the clouds). Details on the shoreline are beginning to appear.

Salt Spring Island Saturday Home Photo

Saturday Home Photo
Saturday Salt Spring Island home photo…sort of.
In the foreground is the last portion of a very long driveway to a home perched above its 160 acres. Roughly one-quarter of the ocean view is shown in this image. The home gets direct light, from 360 degrees. The nearest neighbour appears to be at a similar elevation, perhaps 5 km away as the crow flies (actually the neighbours have a helicopter, so perhaps more accurately—as the helicopter flies).

Easter Weekend Afternoon

March 26, 2016

Beach Walk

Sometimes we forget how good we have it here on the Island.

Cameron, who is on the injured list, has been moping around and was due for an interesting walk. But because of his ‘sports injury’, the usual mountain hikes were out. He’s a big fan of the intertidal zone though, so we headed out for a short beach walk. But I had forgotten it was the busiest weekend of the year. Fernwood Café was packed inside and out. There were cars on the side of the road, people walking on the road and people out on the Pier.

Five minutes down the beach, we met one person (knitting). Cameron reported there most excellent smells everywhere. And the photo above was our view. One person walking on the pier.

So, in the middle of a sunny afternoon on the busiest weekend of the year—not that crowded after all. Pretty good, even by Island standards.
