Tulip

Tulip Looking Away
We signed up for CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) flowers from Zach and Molly at Bullock Lake Farm. Every week a new floral surprise. OK, we’ve all seen tulips before, but these pretty much exploded over a few days. So big, with so much colour. Pleading to be photographed…

Last Light at Fernwood

March 28, 2016

Last Light at Fernwood

The last bits of light last night. The colour was strong but only for about a minute (and was missed by the folks who left 10 minutes early :-) then became quite dark with dull greys a couple of minutes later. So the first three and the last two (30 second) exposures were recycled.

In case you are wondering:
Was it really this colour? Yes. (depending on what your monitor is showing you)
Was it really this dark? Yes. (we used a flashlight getting off the beach)
Why do the water and sky look ‘dreamy’? It’s a 30 sec. exposure; the clouds and water are moving so those areas look (intentionally) soft.

Trincomali Channel

Trincomali Channel, February Morning

One Log in the Current

During the last couple of weeks on Salt Spring, most early mornings have seen only brief breaks in the cloud. This particular morning was quite dull at dawn. So I had lots of time to watch the log in the photo above pass by under Fernwood pier. The tide and currents were surprisingly strong and the path the log took was also unusual. This would have been great intel in my sailboat racing days!

Heading home along Walker Hook Road (photo free), I noticed the sky opening up a bit so I stopped the truck and scurried down to the shoreline. This was taken from the Maliview area towards Active Pass.

Red Cedar on the Beach

Red Cedar on the Beach

This long exposure, before the sun was up, shows the bottom (roots) of a Western Red Cedar. The tree has been washed up on the beach in the Fernwood area for years. The shell decorations change with the artists who stroll along the beach.
