South Facing low bank Oceanfront Home on Salt Spring Island

Another Saturday, another Salt Spring Island home. I was asked to capture two exterior images of this home for insurance purposes. As sometimes happens, one thing led to several other things; but that’s another story.

This home is close to the village of Ganges. It’s near the end of a quiet paved road. It’s private. It faces south-east through west for all day light with a big sky view. And the view includes a long look towards Sansum Narrows near Maple Bay. It’s low bank oceanfront with a boat launch. As you can see there’s not a leaf out of place. The inside is filled with beautiful new and reclaimed wood. There’s a heated two car garage to the right and a fenced garden/orchard to the left.

Autumn Morning, Ganges

Ganges Morning in the Autumn Fog

8:30 am Ganges, on Salt Spring Island

“There’s always something to see down here.”, said one of the local fixtures on his way by. True enough. And this was an interesting foggy scene before the sun made an appearance throughout the clouds and on the water. The addition of the sun was icing on the cake.

p.s.
This is not a ‘coloured’ black & white conversion, sepia, or otherwise processed image. This is a colour image right out of the camera (Leica M) as shot and, I believe, exactly the way it looked.

Walker Rock

Trincomali Channel with fog at Sunrise

Sunrise with fog at Walker Rock in Trincomali Channel

Walker Rock is a used as a rounding mark in one of Salt Spring Sailing Club’s races. As such it plays a part in many long tales, and some not so long. As I recall, in some high tides, a sailboat can round the mark tightly. If you’re not going to attempt this be sure to sail well past the western end as the rock is a fairly long one… And then there’s the time Jim were in a ‘bit of a blow’, approaching the rock and weren’t sure we could actually  get the spinnaker down, so we…

Living Garage on Salt Spring Island

Quite the gregarious garage, a testament to Salt Spring Island creativity.
