Solar Panel Installation in Progress at GISS

Gulf Islands Secondary, on the Gym roof

84 solar panels will soon cover this roof.
Note the flat panels: two sheets of tempered glass with the solar voltaic cell layer in between. A svelte solar sandwich.
Find our more about the project and how it ties into the GISS Solar Scholarship.

A few recent photos illustrate how the solar array is being constructed:

First Frost

November 17, 2014

Seahorse before the Sunrise

Last Friday saw the first frost of the season at the marinas and docks in Ganges. And the beginnings of a low layer of fog (caused by the difference between sea and air temperatures) over the water. For the next month or so, the sun rises straight into Ganges harbour making early winter mornings very special.

Vineyard on Salt Spring Island

Rows of autumn colour in this Salt Spring vineyard.

Earlier in the year we saw this vineyard from the summit of Mount Maxwell. It’s in the bottom left corner on this page.

Scarecrow on a Salt Spring Farm

Hope Hill Farm
I’m not sure if this guy is a scarecrow or a sprinkler. Anyone know?
He is, of course, outstanding in his field.

Pender to Baker

Pender to Baker from Salt Spring Island

I believe we’re looking at, from foreground to background: South Pender Island (Pender Bluffs and the entrance to Bedwell Harbour), Saturna Island, Bellingham area in Washington State and Mount Baker.

This uncropped photo was taken from Mount Tuam on Salt Spring Island with a telephoto lens.
