The Crossing

The Crossing

The BC Ferry, Howe Sound Queen, coming from Crofton on Vancouver Island nears Vesuvius on Salt Spring Island. On a good day the boat makes 13 round trips.

Equinox

Salt Spring Equinox

On this first day of Spring, I was looking for an equinox image for our pals at National Geographic. And somehow I ended back at my new favourite Salt Spring Island mountain stream. In the rain this time.

I had expected there to be more flow in the stream, after seeing the torrent nine days ago. And I didn’t expect to see any of the iridescent green moss left either. I like the new cleaned-up, wet look and I think this it the best image yet. It seems more alive and vibrant.

Sometimes you need to work at a photograph until you get it right. Now I’m wondering what it might look like in moonlight or after a decent snow…

Any thoughts?

Gulf Islands View

View from the top Deck

Here’s another Saturday home. We’re looking (from Salt Spring) through Captain Passage with Salt Spring on the left, Prevost on the right and Galiano in the background.  And Vancouver behind the clouds. This is a small portion of the upper deck of a two-deck home on a 25 acre estate now on the market (for less than a knock-down in Vancouver…).

Aerial Circus at SIMS

March 18, 2016

Circus at SIMS

Two ‘Circus’ students mid way through a routine in the Salt Spring Island Middle School gym. The feet of the bottom girl (also hanging below the girl pictured) are helping support the girl we’re looking at. Both are relying on the blue fabric to keep them from crashing down on the mats. Circus is one of the exploratory classes at the school this year.

If you want to feel old and creaky, just watch these two for a minute.

First Performer Portrait

First Performer Portrait

It’s been a great two days of portrait shooting. Here’s the first finished GISPA performer image. The portraits will be printed and on display in the ArtSpring Theatre lobby at this year’s show. (April 19, 20, 21)

Performing Arts, including GISPA (the Gulf Islands School of Performing Arts) at Gulf Islands Secondary School is my business cause.
