Clouds at Dawn

Clouds at Dawn

The often photographed Seahorse and I watch a late autumn sky in Ganges Harbour.

The 16 second exposure, aided by a tripod and an absence of boat wake, helps portray the tranquility of this scene.

Once we get past the current monsoon-like weather, there may be more opportunities like this. In mid-to late December the sun rises straight out the harbour and, combined with humidity and the (usually) cold weather, a golden ice fog can form over the ocean’s surface.

Dark and Stormy

Dark and Stormy

A tug drags reluctant barges into the teeth of a building storm near Vesuvius.
The image above is a tiny piece of the original image. It’s a  testament to the latest advances in digital sensors that this photo, taken in the dark from a moving platform, manages to shows details that couldn’t be seen by the eye alone.

Along the Trail

Along the Trail

These hardy quartz faces seem to be emerging from the bordering softer rock on Lassie’s Trail near the summit (see this previous post about hiking Mount Erskine).

The fir needles scattered with wild abandon remind me what mat inside our front door looks like after a hike this time of year.

Random

Random Passage

This is a random post, a Friday flashback (the 1800’s), or whatever you’d like it to be. Just a bit of a change-up from the norm at Salt Spring Photos to see if anyone notices.

Above is Random Passage. Or, more accurately part of the movie set of Random Passage at New Bonaventure near Trinity, Newfoundland. Pretty much as far away from Salt Spring as possible while still in Canada.

Wikipedia says,

Random Passage is a 1992 novel by Newfoundland author Bernice Morgan… It is a historical novel about the inhabitants of Cape Random, a small outport where survival was dependent on catching and selling fish in exchange for supplies. It is set in colonial Newfoundland, over the span of many years.

The TV set was made for a mini-series in 2002.

We visited the area in 2005 and grabbed a few photos while out expanding our cultural knowledge of this country.

Last Ride

Last Ride

We saw this old car earlier on Salt Spring Photos. It’s condition has not improved and it looks now like it has taken its last ride.
