Fall Weather Cruiser

September 7, 2016

Fall Weather Cruiser
A single cruiser overnights at Fernwood Pier in autumn-like weather. The pier is one of the quietest early-morning places on northern Salt Spring island. Before long, the winter birds will arrive in this area and liven things up a little.

Back to School
Something a little different to recognize the first day of the new school year. It’s the new website I put together for the Gulf Islands School District. Lots of photos there…click here to explore the website.

Home Sweet Home

September 3, 2016

Home Sweet Home

While photographing another home this week, I noticed this curious oceanview beast tucked away on sunny ridge. Apparently on a large piece of land with massive gardens—it was designed for, and is occupied by, one elderly person.

So there you have it. Yet another Salt Spring Island surprise as another Saturday home post.

note: I was thinking myself a bit clever with the title, but apparently back in April 2015 I used the same title to post another home. A very different home (and one of my favourites) but I’m told it was designed by the same firm. Huh.

Turf Magicians

September 1, 2016

No Green
A few years back, the high school playing fields were stunning for September’s school start. Apparently that doesn’t happen when the fields aren’t watered during the summer break. It will be interesting to see how quickly these turf magicians transform a dust bowl into green lushness.

Did you know that—in addition to the large solar array on the gym roof—there’s geothermal piping under these fields? (more details)

Well, it is a yellow line and it is in the center of the road…
